Royal Naval Cottages

King William IV Naval Foundation

Registered Charity Number 210392

We provide self-contained cottages (almshouses) in the village of Southwick, Hampshire, for a wide range of widows and daughters of deceased RN, RM, and RFA Officers and Warrant Officers, former WRNS Officers and Warrant Officers, retired female RN and RM Officers, and widows and daughters of some deceased RFA Officers. This is just a synopsis and more details can be found by following the link to the 'About' section.

The foundation was created in 1847 by the Dowager Queen Adelaide and Earl Howe to provide almshouses for the widows of Royal Naval and Royal Marines Officers and daughters over 40, who were in distressed financial circumstances. It continues to provide almshouses but to a wider range of beneficiaries. More details can be found by following the link to the 'History' section.
